Having the goal of improving posture is a smart one because more and more people are starting to notice right away the type of posture a person is using and can clearly see how this influences the way they look.

Sadly, many people don’t have a very good stance and aren’t taking steps towards improving posture, therefore they have a lot of work to do.

The good thing is that with a few easy steps you can dramatically increase the way you’re standing and get results quickly.

Always Monitor Your Chair

The first thing that will make a huge difference on how successful you are with improving posture is the type of chair you’re sitting in. If you’re constantly slouched over, especially at work, it could actually be the chair that’s causing this.

Proper ergonomics is vital so it may be worth it to pay an expert to come in and have a look. Chair, computer, and desk all need to be at a proper height for you in order to prevent slouching over.

Choose The Best Footwear

The second thing that will be important is that you’re choosing good footwear. If you aren’t fully supported on your feet, that will shorten the back or place it in an unnatural curved position.

Your shoes should be such that your feet remain flat on the floor at all times and they are cushioned enough that you aren’t experiencing knee, shin, or back pain as the day wears on.

Those who work in occupations where they are constantly on their feet will really want to invest in a good pair of shoes because it will make all the difference for them.

Keep Stress Levels Lower

Stress is another thing that can stop you from improving posture as you normally would. When we are stressed we will keep our shoulders shrugged up, shortening the spinal column considerably.

To help combat that, pay close attention to your stress levels and take moments during the day to at least do some deep breathing and neck rolls.

If nothing else that will help to relax the muscles temporarily, reducing the chances that the stress related tension causes back pain.

Practice Yoga

Finally, if you really want to kick your ability for improving posture up a notch higher, consider practicing yoga.

Yoga will not only improve the flexibility of the back, but it increases conscious awareness of our body’s special positioning, allowing you to be better aware of the type of posture you’re using.
